TURKISH SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS

Independent Research Based on Market, Freedom and Citizenship.

Who Are We?

The Turkish School of Economics is an independent intellectual community that views freedom not merely as an idea but as a way of life. We examine social and economic issues outside ideological frameworks, relying on observation, reason, and civic responsibility. Our goal is to strengthen the principles of originality, honesty in research, and openness of discussion in Türkiye's intellectual production. Through our work on the market, citizenship, and individual freedom, we aim to preserve the independence of thought and establish a new tradition of research. We are committed to truth, not power; to ideas, not slogans; and to inquiry, not obedience.

Our vision

A society where individuals are trusted to think, produce, and shop freely; where academia values independence, not ideology; where freedom is seen as a civic virtue, not a party slogan. We believe that the path leading Türkiye to this goal lies through research and science. We want to leave as an intellectual legacy to future generations a unique, libertarian economic understanding that aligns with the status quo, resulting from the examination and synthesis of diverse ideas of freedom.
Turkish School of Economics

A Letter to Readers:

This school was born not from an idea, but from a deficiency. For a long time, I had been questioning why libertarian thought in Türkiye hadn't flourished on its own. In this country, intellectual currents often came from abroad, and we were swept along by those currents. Directly bringing an ideology without a theoretical foundation into politics led to the idea being squandered before it could develop. However, I believe that thinking, discussing, and producing—in other words, the intellectual foundation—must be laid first. This is precisely where the idea of the Turkish School of Economics was born: the need to fill the gap in Türkiye's libertarian academic community and to bring together people from diverse fields to rethink the market and individual freedom. Our goal is to initiate a dynamic research process in which everyone can contribute. Our question is simple yet profound: How can a market-based approach, rooted in individual freedom, be established and sustained in Türkiye?

Frankly, I considered postponing this project for a long time. But then I realized: no structure is built unless someone lays the first brick. If this vision had a response, this idea would find its way, and with the support of the people, it would grow. We see freedom not as an abstract doctrine, but as the courage to have control over one's own life. We want this courage to take root again in thought, economics, and citizenship. Academia is not something we can afford to relegate to the background of politics. Our goal is to rekindle independent thought, honest research, and intellectual self-confidence. This school will not copy its tradition from the outside; it will build its understanding of freedom from within its own community.

We want to leave a tradition of thought that aligns with the status quo yet moves ahead of it: a legacy based on reason, effort, and honesty. The Turkish School of Economics is more than an institution. We want it to be the shared home of everyone who thinks, questions, and is unafraid to create. Read these lines not as a conclusion, but as a beginning. Because every new idea begins with someone saying, "Enough is enough, I'll try." I thank everyone who will contribute their ideas and writings along this journey.
